Uplifting poetry, uplifting community, uplifting you.
A poetry initiative founded by Rae White.
Who is Uplift Poetry?
Uplift Poetry is based on stolen lands in Meanjin, the lands of the Jagera and Turrbal people. Sovereignty was never ceded. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
Uplift is a poetry community hub that aims to uplift people and their poetry through events, opportunities and connection. Uplift provides poetry resources for the community, by the community.
Uplift publishes a comprehensive monthly newsletter for sharing and showcasing poetry events, opportunities and more in Meanjin (Brisbane), Queensland, and Australia-wide.
At Uplift Poetry, we research events, publishing opportunities, book releases and beyond, so you don’t have to, then we send them straight to your inbox.
We also host events, partner with organisations, and plan to provide even more services and resources to the poetry community in the future.

Our mission
At Uplift Poetry, we thrive on poetic reciprocity and connection. We are non-competitive and community-focused.
We want to inspire and empower poets no matter where you are on your poetry journey. We want to help lower the barriers to entry that you face in poetry.
We believe poetry should be for everyone.
We aim to raise the voices of marginalised, underrepresented and disempowered poets and creatives, including First Nations, LGBTQIA+, refugee, disabled and working class poets, and poets of colour.
(Despite the similar name, we’re not to be confused with the amazing Upswell Publishing run by Terri-ann White. You should definitely check them out though – they’re brilliant.)

Where does my money go?
Our paid members help us continue to create community and connection for poets. Your money goes directly towards helping us keep our basic newsletter free to all subscribers.
Your subscription also helps us: gather detailed poetry information for our community; run our website and social media; and offer free poetry events.
We also donate Uplift Poetry newsletter subscriptions to low-income and marginalised folks. No need to show us any evidence - you have nothing to prove <3
Simply send us an email and we'll send you a paid subscription for free.
Poetry reciprocity is key.
